Parents, Guardians, and Students,

The school year is in full swing now. We have many activities in which the students can get involved. Football and volleyball games start next week, and our teams have been practicing hard to make Pima proud. We have 36 boys playing football this year. And even though volleyball had tryouts and cuts, we have 15 eighth-grade girls and 15 seventh-grade girls and four managers—a total of 34 girls participating in volleyball. That’s 70 students participating in fall sports—over half of our entire student body. And if you don’t play sports, you can join the knowledge bowl team and show off your vast intelligence. Or you can just cheer for all of our teams competing to be the best. It’s a great school with dedicated teachers and coaches. Get involved and show your Roughrider spirit.

A word about the MASH and MART—we have set up these two programs to motivate students to accomplish their academic goals, and to tutor those who are struggling. They are not considered punishments. Punishments only come when a student does not attend the assigned program. Since our first priority is to our students’ learning, we must take seriously the job of preparing for high school, college, and careers. Work hard at school—play hard after school, and everyone is happy. Be sure to attend the MASH or MART to which you are assigned.

A parent talked to me the other day. She said she had visited our school last week, and as she approached the front door, a student ran over and opened the door for her and smiled. She said everyone at the school was so polite and well mannered, and that it was a pleasure to see such respectful young people in our town. What a great compliment to our student body and to our school. Way to go Roughriders!

Sincerely,

Mark Squires

Jr. High News

Parents/Guardians:

It is vitally important that if you are bringing in your student late, you must sign him or her in if it is after 8:00 a.m. Also, if you are bringing your child in from an appointment, you must sign them in and have a Doctor/Dental note. Students cannot just walk in, say, "Oh, I'm late" and then go to class. Please take the time and come sign them in. We mark students absence as a "ditch" if there is no proof they were with you or at home. Thank you!

A reminder from the school nurse....

If you have a student who has been prescribed an inhaler for asthma purposes, the school nurse must have written documentation from the parent/guardian giving permission for the student to carry the inhaler on them. This is the only medication that students are allowed to carry and use on school campus. All other prescription medications must be brought to the school nurse in the original labeled container, and the proper paperwork must be completed by the parent/guardian.

Reach Out Health Care America provides an on-site dental clinic on a monthly basis at our school. If you would like more information or an application, please contact me at 387-8053.

School Nurse

Cell Phones

Students are not to use their cell phones during school hours, even if it is to notify you that they are ill. If they need to call, they can use the phone at the front office. Thank you!
